A Question for My Fellow Bloggers

I was reading Kvetch over at her blog tonight and in a post titled I Heart Snark, she confesses her desire to be a snarky blogger who can have you laughing while striking at chord at the same time. The problem: she writes about her life and her life isn't all that funny right now, what with raising two kids post-divorce and post-mortem. Shortly after getting a divorce, her ex-husband died leaving her a single parent -- again.

This got me to thinking about my blog and what I want it to be, what it is, what I can be and what I can't be. (The question is coming soon. You can probably guess what it is.) I know that I would love to be full of witticisms, a quotable blog, you know? I would like to write self-deprecatingly with authenticity and humor. Ummmm. . . I don't think I'm quite there, yet. I know that as a blogger I am, how shall we say it, chatty. My motto is why use 50 words when 500 will do. Just look at almost any post or even my comments on other blogs. Lots o' words. I am genuine, but I know that I am not consistently witty or wise or humorous. Maybe that will come in time, or maybe, as in almost every other area of life, I will grow to accept and appreciate the blogger that I am and leave it at that.

I have recently asked some of my fellow mombloggers who they want to read their blog, but now my question is this, "What do you want your blog to be?"

What a great question! I want my blog to be, and not be, a few things. I don't want my blog to be a diary, although I do want it to reflect my life experiences and thoughts. I want my blog posts to be exercises in creative, truthful writing. I strive to write well with every single post, perfect my skill as a writer. I hope my blog leads to more and more writing by me.

I must agree with Kvetch that I don't want my blog to be a diary. It is really a place for me to write creatively and/or to relect on life as I see it. Friends and some family are invited to read my writings. If you pay close attention you will learn about me through my writing but my intent is not necessarily to write about myself.

I dreamed last night that an unnamed advertising agency sent me a check for $10,000 from ads on my blog. So, today, I want my blog to generate enough money so I don't have to get a real job anytime soon. Wouldn't that be sweet? My only task for the day would be to do a few posts. Maybe open another blog, maybe comment on other people's blog so they'll come and read mine. A girl can dream!

Kvetch, thanks for stopping by and for sharing your thoughtful comments. I look forward to reading more and more of your writing.

Terri, I am enjoying your very thoughtfully written posts. The differences between us and our approach to writing and blogging are so clear to me! Your pieces are compact but have depth. They are definitely more essay-like than my ramblings. Keep up the good work!

Sheila, dude, what a suh-weeeeet dream. How cool would that be? Sooooooo cool!

I'd like to think that in time, my blog will reflect more aspects of my personality. Maybe through writing, things about me that I might not make known can be expressed in the blog.

Though, you know me very well already!

Hi Mary! Thanks for asking about my eyes . . . they're great.

I feel the same way about my blog . . . I would love to be witty and wise, but I think I'm way too wordy to have that dream come true. LOL! I would love to have lots of profound things to share, but my life is simple and I tend to just write about that simple stuff.
