Okay Students, our subject today is science. Who can identify this substance recently found in the front yard of a house in Southern California?
Anybody?
Anybody?

Oh, gross! Is it a fungus? Some type of odd mushroom growth? Some chemical coming out of the wood?
Eew... that's just... ew.
Did you touch it? Is it spongy or sticky?
It is natural.
It looks like a fungus but is a type of mold.
I didn't touch it, but it looked both spongy and sticky to me.
Anyone else have a guess?
Ugh! That is disgusting! It's times like this I wish my video card didn't work quite so well. :)
I can't imagine that as a type of mold! It looks more like some kind of vomit!
Peace,
~Chani
Chani is getting warmer.
Let's review:
Looks like a fungus (Hint: fungus in the name.) It is really a mold.
It's yellow.
Chani isn't the only one who thinks it looks like vomit.
If you google the following, I think someone might get it:
yellow
fungus
vomit
Let's see what you can come up with now.
Ew ew ew
There is absolutely no way that I'm googling yellow, fungus and vomit. I'm frightened at what might turn up.
So I'm going to stick with the guess of hummous
I can't pass up a good googling opportunity like that, so here's my guess:
dog vomit slime mold
aka Fuligo septica
Ick. If that's real, that's an very unfortunate common name.
Well, class... Becky is our star pupil for the day. She gets an A++++++++++++ and a free hall pass.
It is indeed Dog Vomit Fungus (often called a fungus but it is really a slime mold.)
Well, there's the bell. You may all leave now. I'll see you at our next class.
That is just disgusting.
THAT was a SICK DOG >>> VERY SICK
eeeewwwww
.... where's that meme ??? ... yeah moving on ...
eeewww
and here i thought it was some sort of alien leavings ...
poor dog, that just looks painful !!
and more than a little gross : )
i heart science, lol ...
Well Daisies and Pam, it isn't really dog vomit. It is just a slime mold which goes by that name because of its resemblance to dog vomit. (At no time does this not remain completely gross.)
OMG.......
It's appropriately named?
*gak*
*shudder*
Sick and wrong......
Apparently I missed class but, EWWW!
If I were you, I would poke it with a stick. And then I would move somewhere inhospitable to "Dog Vomit Slime Mold."
Ew. I'm going out to check my yard now. That's just nasty.
OH COOL!
If that was in front of our house, my kids and I would have been more than ten minutes late to school today...
When they get home I am so showing them this and looking it up.
We do like our mold and fungus---luckily, since we have PLENTY of it!
(But remember, my kids are the ones who wanted to necropsy the dead lizard---and I was somewhat intrigued until I thought of the MESS!---so...)
