A glimpse into a family project: The Family Portrait

I convinced (arm-twisted and bribed) my children into cooperating for a do-it-yourself Christmas portrait this year. I thought you might enjoy a little slide show of the effort:

For reasons known only to her, my mother would arrange professional family photos without telling us until we all came home to visit. It would usually be after final exams or something, when i was broken out in stress zits and had brought home only sweat pants to wear. There would follow a ridiculous panicked day of shopping for something in my parents' town that was not made for sixty-yr-old women, and then a disastrous photo. I don't know why she kept doing this. Your way seems much more sensible.

Ah, it looks like it could be my house. Except my husband would stick his tongue out for every photo and then the kids would follow suit. Joy.

I like the ones where you've left a spot for Jesus beside Colin on the couch!

B&P, that's so funny... we should have thought of that to go with our empty stocking theme. Maybe a place at the dinner table? I think the paddy wagon would not be far behind us if we did that! ;)

This is so cute and so inventive! I've never seen a photo scroll thingy like this before.

Also, your family is beautiful and so is your home. Thanks for sharing these!

Getting everyone into a family photo and looking in the same direction is like herding cats, no?

Family portrait pictures? Oooh, I want to see them! But my computer isn't letting me. Darn!! I'm sure they're beautiful. I'll try again later.

Several years ago, after a disastrous attempt to get the kids in a picture at Sears, we gave up on the professional thing. The problem was, how do you get them all to sit still for a photo?

Thus, every year we actually set up the video camera. We attempt a few shots with the still camera, but we leave the video running for at least five minutes in hopes of capturing one mere frame where everyone looks presentable at the same time. This year, we even got ourselves in on the act. By the way, it doesn't work. We have yet to get even a single frame.

There is one video from about 7 years ago, though, that we periodically consider submitting to America's Funniest Home Videos. It is THAT bad!

I love this little glimpse into your life! thanks!

ROFL! That was great.
We hate family pictures here. I'm married to a photographer, which means we don't have many. (This is logical, along the lines of Dr's kids are always sick, mechanic's cars are always broken, and cobbler's kids go shoe-less :) )
