Book Recommendation Anyone?

I've been compiling a books to read list on and off this past year. Sometimes I have referred to it when looking for my next read. Often it has just sat, quite and undisturbed, in My Documents file. Recently some new books have been added and the list is getting long. So, my blogging reading buddies, I am curious which books off of this list you would recommend to me and why. (I am getting over a cold and way too tired to link these titles up. Sorry.)

The Last Witchfinder
by James Morrow

Intuition by Allegra Goodman

The Bright Forever by Lee Martin

Dream Life of Sukhanov by Olga Grushin

Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami

King Rat by China Mievielle

Bill Bryson books esp. A Brief History of Almost Everything

By Alice Munro:
The Love of a Good Woman
Runaway
Open Secrets

Jayber Crow by Wendell Berry

By Ursula Hegi:

Stones from the River
The Vision of Emma Blau

The Professor and the Madman by Simon Winchester

By Jasper Fforde:

The Big Over Easy
The Fourth Bear

Band of Brothers by Stephen Ambrose

If you have any other titles you think I'd be interested in, just let me know.

Miscellaneous:

As I said above, I've had a cold and so, while I've been doing some blog reading here and there, I've not had much energy for commenting. My latest theory is that my body is out to get me. It seems like every time I turn around, there is some new creak in the metaphorical floorboards of my body. Now, I'm a few days behind on some projects as well as in preparation for a busy weekend. So, if I seem pretty quiet, those are the reasons.

I hope you are all doing well. I'll be back in form next week!

I love Alice Munro, so I'd start there (LOGW, Runaway, OS, in that order).

I haven't read the others.

My favourite book lately is Lullabies for Little Criminals.

Well, himself has read 'Band of Brothers' and recommends it. (WWII buff that he is)

I'm catching up with you and just reading The Glass Castle.
Wow is it familiar!

I'm jotting down your recommendations, actually. I haven't read anything great in ages.

metro mama, I think the Alice Munro recommendations actually came from you last year!

I haven't read any of those, let me know how you like them.

How about Case Histories by Kate Atkinson, it was pretty good.

Band of Brothers is graphic, but really good. I liked how they portrayed the relationships and not just the events.

I'm stealing some of your titles, as I love to read!

Just finished truly enjoying (so to speak) Vanishing Acts.

Love book lists!

Well, I think I either read Norwegian Wood when I was going through my two books a day phase, or started reading it when I hit the "Can't concentrate on a single paragraph" phase (where I am now). I read the synopsis and it sounds really familiar...

I LOVE Bill Bryson (Highly recommend "I'm a Stranger Here Myself"). For the just coming out of a cold and still really busy mind-set, a little humor goes a long way!

I haven't read any of the others that I remember, but I am REALLY bad at remembering titles when I have been through a reading binge - even if I adore the book.

I hope you feel better and accomplish much!

Hi - it's been a while. Anyway, I've just finished this book: God Grew Tired of Us: A Memoir by John Bul Dau and Michael Sweeney. It is wonderful and inspiring. Of course, I love nonfiction more than fiction. And for what it's worth, whenever I read too much Alice Munro, I get really depressed. Her writing is beautiful but whew!

I read Stones from the River - liked it quite a bit. I LOVE LOVE LOVE anything by Jasper Fforde, so those would be on the top of my list. (I have a signed copy of Over Easy - I'd let you borrow it. Yep, I'm that good of a friend :) )

I'm' still cruising through the Grafton mystery novels, so I can't recommend anything on your list at the moment... I wonder if this means my brain is rotting? Hmmmm.
